Spring Fever Yet? I confess, I’ve already had it!…
As I spend mornings and afternoons with clients, a few have expressed they don’t care for this time of the year because of the gloom they feel. Is it the sun we are craving, the warmth, or is it the vitamin D manufactured by our skin we miss? In the U.S. alone, 42% of the population is deficient in Vitamin D. Are you in this group? Do you get the glooms? Do you avoid the sun, or block it for reasons such as aging, or skin cancer? You may very well be deficient. A blood test by your Dr. is the way to find out if you’re deficient and it will be your Doctors guidelines as far as intake. Besides the ‘glooms’ we get during winter, there are other concerns about Vitamin D deficiency that might spike your interest! Here are some of the roles it plays in our bodies. Vitamin D is needed to build stronger bones. It helps to improve muscle function and helps protect from cardiovascular disease. It decreases the risk of type 2 diabetes. Vitamin D is one of the most important inhibitors of cancer cell growth. Cancers that have been linked to low levels of vitamin D are colon, prostate, breast, and ovary. Studies show that adequate levels of D may lower the risk of developing MS. It also helps stimulate the pancreas for insulin production. I am just impressed with this vitamin. It plays so many roles in our health. Are you getting adequate D intake? But don’t just take my word for it, see what the experts say about Vitamin D!
