Are you staying hydrated?
Do you ever experience a muscle cramp? While training, clients will from time to time and my first question is “are you hydrated”? After all, our muscles are mostly comprised of water. In fact, the adult human body is made up of around 60% water. It is certainly safe to say that in order for our bodies to perform at optimal levels, proper hydration is key. Hopefully the next time you are reaching for that pop can, you will reconsider and have some water. Every single cell in our body uses water. More than half of our physical existence is made of water! Our brains, hearts, lungs, skin, muscles and kidneys are all composed of more than 50% water. Our nose, mouth and eyes are able to stay moist because of the function water plays in the body. Water helps to protect our spinal cords as well as lubricate and cushion our joints. Convinced yet to go for that water? Water is critical in flushing out toxins, as well as breaking down and transporting nutrients. So next time you are thirsty, let all of these benefits and roles water plays in our bodies motivate you to hydrate up properly!
